How is the BIC run and
what does it provide?

BIC is open (Monday to Friday) from 9.00 am - 12.00 nn and 1.00 - 4.00 pm except during holidays. It consists of a library, a GIS laboratory and a conference hall. The data in BIC is in form of publications, a geodata catalogue, geodata visualization and analysis tools, and materials for visitors and environmental education such as a multimedia presentation, maps, a tourism guide, cartoons and "The BIOTA East Africa Atlas".

Free access and use of the library facilities is provided for BIC members (250 shillings per year). Non-members and students are asked to donate 100 and 50 shillings per day respectively.

Eventually user terminals will be provided for Internet and online researches. Other services will include photocopying, file printing, and document scanning.

The GIS laboratory houses computers and software to work with a broad array of detailed geospatial data and information regarding the forests' different ecosystems, its biodiversity, and the rural livelihoods of the adjacent farmland.
