How has the BIC come in place?

The Biodiversity Information Centre (BIC) at Kakamega Forest was established in 2008 by Kenya Wildlife Service and Kenya Forest Service with funding from the BIOTA East Africa Project, and fully operationally from 2009 onwards. The Biodiversity Monitoring and Transect Analysis (BIOTA) East Africa project started in 2001 with funding over more than nine years from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The project theme was conservation and sustainable use of East African rainforest ecosystems and research work was done in collaboration with local communities, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), National Museums of Kenya (NMK), Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and others at Kakamega and Nandi Forests in Western Kenya and Mabira and Budongo Forests in Uganda.
