The KAAD scholars and alumni paying BIC a visit,
among them many BIOTA-East scholars

On the 13th of August 2011 two bus loads of current KAAD scholars as well as KAAD alumni paid a visit to BIC. The Catholic Academic Exchange Service (KAAD) had invited young and senior scientists for their annual seminar.

Due to having been deeply involved in supporting many scholars going for their Masters' degree or PhD within the BIOTA East Africa project, the KAAD seminar was entitled 'Protection and Management of Natural Resources in Africa - Biodiversity, the Magnificence of God's Creation' and took place in the BIOTA-East focus area of research, Kakamega. Therefore it was only logical that all participants were brought to the BIC in order to learn about its existence, how it benefitted from the BIOTA-East research, and how it could benefit from any further research outcomes related to the Kakamega Forest area. In addition the objectives of the BIC were presented as well as the material available.

That day there was a great interest by the people having worked in the area as well as those not being as acquainted with the area, of purchasing from the products on sale, e.g. the 1:20,000 scale map, the tourist guide, the multimedia DVD, or the booklet providing an scientific overview on the area.
