The South African High Commissioner
to Kenya grants BIC with a visit during
his tour of Western Province

H.E. Mr Ndumiso Ndima Ntshinga, the South African High Commissioner to Kenya, paid a visit to Western Province on 9th March 2011 as part of his orientation tour of the country.

The Provincial Commissioner (PC) had developed an itinerary that highlighted potential areas of partnership between the two governments which would enhance efforts in conserving the tropical rainforests in the region while uplifting the economic and social status of the communities living around them. BIC was chosen as part of this programme since the information at the centre and the various tools used in disseminating this information embodied the message that the PC intended to convey.

The High Commissioner and his entourage were shown the different visualization tools that can be used for illustrating the changes in the extent of the forest over time. He pointed out that from the visit he could better understand how much of the forest had been lost and the different factors that brought about this change. He urged the PC to find a way of developing and using such tools in disseminating information on other key resources in the province as they are very effective means in getting across information.
