Her Excellency Margit Hellwig-Boette,
the German Ambassador to Kenya,
paid a visit to the newly set-up BIC
Shortly after the launch of the Biota East Africa Atlas with a representative of the German embassy being
present, the German ambassador Margit Hellwig-Bötte was keen to visit the Biodiversity Information Centre
in Kakamega. The Ambassador is in particular interested to learn about projects which have been made
possible due to funding from the German Government. Her visit to the BIC took place on the 24th of
September 2010. When she arrived with her entourage that included area polititians and government
officials, it was heavily pouring down. But as the Kakamega Forest area is known for heavy rains in the
afternoon it could be considered as part of the presentation. Anastasia Mwaura, the BIC officer at that
time, then took the chance of introducing the facilities of BIC to the Ambassador, including the conference
hall, the library and the GIS lab. Mrs. Hellwig-Boette has been in particular impressed by the manifold
data and information available and had a detailed look at the products on display. Afterwards she enjoyed
being introduced to the tools useful for environmental education where she even started to interact with
our multimedia presentation. We were happy to hear that she was keen to support the BIC.
